MEDITATION & IMPROV
3pm - 4pm
Lead by Wyn Evans
Improvisation can be taught, thought of, and approached in countless ways. But in it's essence, improvisation is an innate facet of our lived experience. Improvisation is not an object of our doing, but more accurately, the space in which all of our doing unfolds and expands. In this class, we will experientially explore, through improvised guided meditation, scene-work and groupwork, the essence of improvisation. We will discover, together, in our own unique ways, that we are always already improvising, without needing to be taught anything in particular in order for that to be the case. When a group of people comes into resonance with this eternal truth together, the play that emerges is lighthearted, joyful, creative, and synchronistic. There will be time for feedback, questions, and sharing at the end, to support us in continuing our improvisation into our daily lives.
Wyn Evans is an improviser, comedian, musician, writer, meditation facilitator, and human being living and working in Chicago, IL. After many years of intense inner struggle, Wyn realized that life was never going to give him exactly what he thought he wanted, so he tried something radical: he begun to offer unconditional love and service to life, no matter how life looked, felt, or treated him back. His life is a manifestation of that choice to be of service to the awesome potential and infinite grace of every human being. MEDITATION & TAI CHI
4pm - 5pm
Lead by Edwin Alvarez
Qi gong and Tai chi go hand in hand though both can stand on their own. Both work with the breath and intention to help build an awareness of the body and a sense of one's space. Qi gong, literally means “Breath work”. It uses standing postures to focus on the movement of one's breath to build awareness in health. Tai chi uses moving postures to build coordination of the breath, and to help direct a unity of movement and awareness. The Qi Gong that will be taught in class is a simple technique to open the imagination as to what the body can be aware of. Normally, we go about our day and completely ignore the subtleties of our flesh. It is only when we are hungry or in pain that we start to give it what it needs. The focus of the exercise will be to open the mind to the inner workings of the body and listen deeply to our inner organs. The Tai chi segment will show us how to move in that awareness in a quick 8 movement form that anybody can use. In order not to be stuck with a surplus of energy, it is good to know how to move it and direct it. Tai chi is a powerhouse of mind/eye/body coordination that people tend to look over.
