NOW HIRING: MANAGING DIRECTOR

Nothing Without a Company seeks a Managing Director to organize the day-to-day operations and oversee the long-term planning and vision in the areas of administration, finance, marketing, and community engagement for the company. This individual will work closely with the Co-Artistic Directors and be the manager of the administrative staff to ensure that the company is on a healthy, organized trajectory toward artistic and developmental goals of planting theatre around Chicago with all forms of media to empower self and community through immersive and revolutionary acts of art in site-specific and reclaimed environments.

Position Responsibilities:

Operations and Administration

Provides staff support to the Board of Directors (BOD) and committees and ensures all appropriate information regarding operations and policies is available

Processes performance requests and coordinates with the Artistic Director(s)

Provides reports in advance of meetings

Implements the programs and policies of the organization in compliance with objectives defined in cooperation with the BOD

Creates clear systems for effective business operation and communication

Attends occasional rehearsals and serves as liaison between BOD and administrative staff

Oversees and manages activities [recruitment, development, evaluation, and operations] of volunteers

Ensures appropriate business arrangements for performances, filming, and other events (such as negotiating contracts for performance venues and serving as liaison for house management, ticketing, and accommodations for guests and artists)

Ensures company calendars, databases, and website(s) are updated

Ensures that correspondence (phone, e-mail, and postal mail) is replied to in a timely manner

Coordinates staff meetings

Establishes sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with nonprofits, other theatre associations, community groups, and media outlets

Serves as an effective spokesperson for the organization and as a community leader

Oversees and provides staff support to the Marketing Director

Collaborates with the BOD and Marketing Director to market and publicize the work of the company

Monitors and coordinates approval of public relations materials distributed to the general public or news media including, but not limited to, press materials, playbills, flyers, newsletters, posters, promotional items, and logo usage

Retains and archives production materials, including all press releases and marketing materials
Financial and Audience Development 

Develops the annual budget and manages its implementation

Assumes an active role in audience development and fundraising (across stage productions, film and web content, and social media platforms)

Provides staff support to the Development Director and Finance Committee and implements their decisions

Maintains strong relationships with individual, corporate, foundation, and government donors and sponsors

Establishes relationships with city, county, and regional governments and foundation agencies

Ensures that donor recordkeeping, thank you letters, and fundraising records are maintained

Monitors spending and manages finances to meet current needs while staying within budgetary limits

Works with Treasurer, Finance Committee, and BOD to provide oversight and transparency with respect to finances, the budget, and reporting of financial position

Leads development of an organizational strategic plan and oversees its execution

Consults with BOD on initiatives to facilitate future growth, success, and stability of the organization.

Keeps BOD informed of condition of organization and all important factors influencing it through regular communications and consistent reporting

Protects organization’s values by keeping appropriate information confidential

Maintains a climate that attracts, retains, and motivates a diverse and talented volunteer base and staff

Qualifications Summary
Bachelor’s degree in business management, non-profit management, or related field required. Non-profit experience, especially in the performing arts, required.  Three years in Managing Director position or senior management position strongly preferred. Proven success in managing a volunteer program. Excellent oral and written communication.
