A fundraiser for [Trans]formation
at The Crystal Ballroom.

Express Yourself - because fashion, like gender, has no boundaries!

The Living Canvas is partnering with Nothing Without a Company to develop a new work created and devised by trans voices entitled [Trans]formation.

The Express Yourself Fashion Show is our largest fundraiser for this project. Proceeds from ticket sales, auctions, and silent auctions will go toward [Trans]formation.

We are hosting a fashion show for which selected designers will create and execute ensembles with gender-fluidity in mind.

We want everyone to know that there is a place to turn if you need help and that you are NEVER alone. The ability to be your authentic self is true freedom and is something that is all too often lacking for our LGTBQ+ youth. In that, we feel that fashion is a tremendous mode of self expression and at the Transformation Show we’re ready to smash the boundaries of gender expectations on the catwalk.

Express Yourself will feature 16 original pieces created by 10 designers who have been selected by our board of panelists. The 10 selected will be asked to create and execute 1 design that celebrates gender fluidity. Three of the selected designers will be chosen to be a “Featured Designer” who will display three cohesive designs to be modeled on three of the actors from [Trans]formation.

Are you a Fashion Designer?
Here's how to submit!

Please submit all materials listed below to no later than July 15th, 2016.

  1. A Cover Letter explaining your interest in the show and your personal goals as a fashion designer

  2. A brief resume detailing your fashion training and personal background in fashion.

  3. Provide the following information and answer these questions:

    1. Name

    2. City and Neighborhood of residence

    3. How would you rate your pattern making experience on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being “What’s a pattern?” and 10 being “I can do that blindfolded with a safety pin.”?

    4. Have you had experience with fittings and subsequent alterations on garments? Please describe.

    5. Have you ever been featured in a fashion show before? If so, when?

    6. Will you be able to commit to multiple meetings with your model for vision, design, and fit from the date of selection until show date?

After you submit we will contact you about an interview and the following steps!

The Fashion show will include a silent auction at the end of the night in which each design will be auctioned off. Should your piece be bid on- the first $50 to be bid on a piece will go directly to the designer to cover material cost. Anything above $50 will be split between the production of [Trans]formation and the Designer. So this is an opportunity to sell your work!

Designers will be meeting and working with other amazing artists in the Chicago fashion, makeup, modeling, theatre and performance communities. The opportunities to make new connections will be limitless!
