My proposed piece would be a theatrical reading of an essay I wrote regarding a relationship I had in high school that was foundational in revealing to me the urgency required in coming to terms with my trans identity, which put me at direct odds with my highly religious family, along with a video art component to be shown as an accompaniment to the text. It also wrestles with the idea of womanhood and jealousy, as throughout the piece and throughout the real-life school year the essay chronologically spans my desire to be validated as a conventionally attractive woman clashes with my growing clandestine attraction to my unaware best friend.
