Junior Board Job Description 2025 - Cultivate NWaC's Future

Join NWaC's Junior Board and play a vital role in shaping our theater company and community. This position offers an in-depth exploration of key operational areas, providing hands-on experience that directly contributes to expanding the diversity, equity, inclusivity, and accessibility of the Chicago Theater Community.

The Junior Board's vision is to educate and inspire new leaders and advocates for the arts. Members will serve as an NWaC Ambassador, representing the organization and its mission. By attending board and committee meetings, they will gain insight into the inner workings of a non-profit arts organization. A key responsibility will be to develop and deliver NWaC’s 2026 Fundraising Event.

In addition, each member will focus on at least one of the following critical fields:

  • Audience Development: Cultivate a vibrant community around our work by fostering lasting connections with both new and existing patrons.

  • Grant Writing: Contribute to securing the essential funding that brings our artistic visions to life by crafting compelling narratives.

  • Marketing: Drive engagement and attendance by mastering the strategies that tell NWaC's story and promote our productions.

  • Strategic Planning: Help chart the course for the company's future by contributing to high-level decisions that ensure its longevity and artistic impact.

This is an opportunity to move beyond the stage and help build the foundational pillars of a thriving, innovative theater company. The work of the Junior Board will be a driving force behind NWaC's continued evolution.

Role Compensation: $1000 stipend

Requirements

Jr Board applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 28.

Skills & Mindset:

  • Aspiration for personal growth: A focus on continuous learning and development within the arts and non-profit sectors.

  • Confident communication: Comfort with public speaking and professional engagement.

  • Foundational business acumen: Proficiency in basic math and professional writing.

  • A collaborative spirit: An ability to work effectively within a team to achieve shared goals.

  • Creative problem-solving: A mindset that approaches challenges with innovation and adaptability.

  • A proactive and self-motivated attitude: The drive to take ownership of projects and see them through to completion.

Technology:

  • Essential access: Consistent access to a smartphone and a computer with a reliable internet connection.

  • Core tools: Familiarity with Zoom, Google Suites, and Microsoft Office Suites.

Time & Work Commitments:

  • One-year commitment: November 2025 to November 2026.

  • Regular meetings: Attend two operational meetings per month, with additional meetings as needed based on project demands. All in-person meetings are held on Chicago's north side.

  • Community engagement: Act as an NWaC Ambassador at various community events and festivals.

  • Key project ownership: Participate in the project management and delivery of NWaC's Annual Fundraising Event, scheduled for October 2026.
